Are cotton buds banned?

Recent measures have been taken to ban the distribution and manufacturing of plastic cotton buds worldwide, but, unfortunately, we should keep seeing them in our circuit for a while.

Plastic-made cotton buds are such a small and ordinary product that it is easy not to think about their impact on the environment. When throwing them away or flushing them down the toilet, the tiny buds make their way into our oceans. The plastic sticks are sadly too often mistaken for food by marine animals, slowly suffocating and killing them.

Still today, cotton buds are the 8th most common piece of plastic pollution found on our beaches. This is why any items used for less than a minute should be biodegradable, reusable and properly disposed of.

Eco friendly cotton buds

The main alternatives to plastic cotton buds are paper and bamboo cotton buds. Both options are infinitely better than plastic. Bamboo sticks are, however, more durable than paper cotton buds, created from a mixture of wood and glue, and need fewer resources to produce.
